Stress

Stress can be an overwhelming feeling. When mixed with anxiety, it can make any task daunting. However, stress can be a good thing. Did you know there are two types of stress, distress and eustress?

Distress is the street you feel when something may cause an issue. It is defined as "extreme anxiety, sorrow, or pain. Psychological distress refers to non-specific symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression. High levels of psychological distress are indicative of impaired mental health and may reflect common mental disorders, like depressive and anxiety disorders."

Eustress is the stress that comes with growth and well-being, such as moving or deciding to further education. It is defined as "The term eustress means "beneficial stress"—either psychological, physical, or biochemical/radiological...combined the Greek prefix eu- meaning "good," and the English word stress, to give the literal meaning "good stress."

Identifying what type of stress I am experiencing can help me deal with it. If I am distressed, I wonder what is causing it and how to deal with it. When experiencing eustress, I find if I lean into it and learn, it helps.

Either way Identifying what is causing the stress is an excellent place to start.
